Member Omer Soomro

With over 25 years of experience, Muhammad Omer Soomro is a distinguished legal professional in Pakistan’s legal landscape. In addition to being an Advocate of the Supreme Court, he recently served as Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Criminal Prosecution, Human Rights and Religious Affairs in the Caretaker Provincial Cabinet of Sindh. He was also twice elected as the General Secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association Karachi. Before establishing Omer Soomro & Partners, Mr. Soomro headed the litigation department of Pakistan’s largest internationally recognized law firm RIAA Barker Gillette for 15 years. He was invited to the law firm as Partner by its Founding Managing Partner Mr. Ahsan Zahir Rizvi, and remained with the firm from 2009 till 2024.  Mr. Soomro’s expertise spans across various domains including constitutional law, taxation and white-collar crimes law, and pharmaceuticals, mining, energy and power, employment and banking disputes, as well as issues related to oil and gas and construction projects. His expertise has garnered international recognition, with prestigious legal directories such as Chambers & Partners and Legal500 consistently ranking him as a leading lawyer. Mr. Soomro is licensed to practice in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts in Dubai and is frequently engaged by clients in respect of international commercial disputes, including international commercial arbitration. He was also recently appointed as an arbitrator in arbitration proceedings.

Mr. Soomro is proficient in legislative drafting and helped the Federal Government draft the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Ordinance, 2006, which remains effective to date.
